Nascar Heat Tutorial
As there seems to be some confusion on the proper method to Install Mods for Nascar Heat I thought I would write a short tutorial.
1. Install Nascar Heat in the default Folder! Almost all of the Mods function better installed in this way. If you are using a non-US version of Windows you can create a Folder in the root of C and name it Program Files. 2. Go to the US Pits.com under TPTCC and download the No-CD Patch. This will Patch you up to 1.5 and you will no longer need to have the CD in order to run the Game. This Patch will create a new exe file called: Nascar Heat.exe 3. Create your shortcuts in the following manner: C:\Program Files\Nascar Heat\Nascar Heat.exe mod:SpiritofHeat -noautoplay Change the name of the Mod to whatever you have installed, Porsche Vintage, DTM or what ever. Some of the Mods come with Bat files. Use these if you wish but be sure the bat file references the Nascar Heat.exe file if you wish to run without the CD. 4. Additional cars can be added. If you download additional cars simply put them in the root of Heat in the appropriate folder. The drivers.tex file needs to be modified. Double click it and edit it in notepad. An example is below: ; -------------- ; drivers.txt ; use caution when editing this file!!! ; -------------- table Driver number 88 name Bob Oster chassis Alfa rank 2 race_image 100 body_style fcar end table Driver number 48 name Terry Vreeland chassis Merc rank 2 race_image 100 body_style fcar end Start at the top after the ;---------- and make several spaces to enter the info for the new car. For safety right click on the drivers.tex and click copy. Right click on a blank area and select Paste. Now you have a copy in case something goes awry. Enter the information in the format shown above. If you wanted to add my Mercedes to DTM you would add the following to the drivers.tex file. The car is available at my website garyhoorn.net A 914 for Porsche Vintage is also there. All of these cars were painted by Bobo88. table Driver number 89 name Gary Hoorn chassis Merc rank 2 race_image 100 body_style fcar I hope this helps and does not confuse. I use the patch swapper without problem. The Zippy patch is necessary to run Luckys conversion of the Nurburgring. I will be monitoring the Forum and will attempt to answer questions. Thanks for posting this. I was going to write something up, but you beat me to it. I've pinned this, as it's quite important.

Gary, this point did not work for me. In my Spanish language, NHeat installed the "Data" folder in "\Archivos de programa\...". There is an entry in my registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Hasbro Interactive\NASCAR Heat) with a key "DataDirectory" and the value "C:\Archivos de programa\Hasbro Interactive\NASCAR Heat\Data\". So, I installed the game in that dir (without 'Data'), and point all mod's installers to that place. There are mod's with .bat files with instructions like "echo y | del .\ui\*.*", In my spanish SO, this should be "echo s| del .\ui\*.*" to work properly. Anyway, I could install (almost) all mods editing .bat files. Hope this help. Regards.

Please note that this patch is not supported by MGI, and that most online leagues will probably not use it.

Yes, this works with any folder you like (also on another drive). The only problem I had is that the Mod Launcher didn't work with any other folder than the default "C:\Program files\...etc..." so I created that folder and installed the game & mods there. You have to direct the registry key there, of course.

I have a problem, I can't install to C as no room so I used D.
Heat works fine but I can't seem to get mods working. I have pointed shortcuts to heat exe and correct folders but they run the original game. There is a folder on C with a cfg file that heat uses. I don't like messing with registry. Any help would be much appreciated.

Baz -
Nice to hear from you! It sounds like you're trying all the right things. NHeat mods certainly are easy to install on the C drive. Is it possible to move one of your bigger programs onto the D drive so Heat will fit? Rob |

Hi MoonNerd, Not really as I have 137mb left on C it is only about 1.3 gb I have 3 other drives with loads of room on. Next time it gets reformatted I will make it bigger.
There is a thread going at another place https://forum.m4driving.sm/showthrea...&threadid=34758 that should provide some answers, Thanks

Thanks Gary! I bought HEAT a year ago just for the mods, and up until I read this thread, haven't figured out how to get mods to work! They do now though!!!

Mods Sorted
EUREKA
It is now sorted and thanks to all that helped. If I installed the mod into the Run folder all was OK. No bat files just change the short cut to the exe. "NASCAR Heat.exe" -mod:F2000 -noautoplay" and all should be fine. This is an excellent mod to try. Baz

Heat Patch 1.73
In the F2000 League I race in we are all using the 1.73 patch. There is a 1.76 patch out but several have experienced problems with it. Most of the IRF Racers seem to be using 1.73. Also Lucky has redone most of the Road Courses to eliminate the stuttering when you drive off line. Now you get a time penalty instead. He has his Ferrari Mod there also. Very nice...
The Big Ben Area has some interesting mods including the final F2000 Formula Ford Mod. League entrys have closed for this season but we are having a blast running the neat little cars... Gary https://mail2.teambattlezone.com/~lucky/ https://thebigben.m4driving.sm/ |

I've been struggling with starting any MODs (tried almost anything!).
And just few minutes ago I finnaly did it! :) Ok, I've got 98SE and C:\ for Windows D:\ for Docs and ProgramFiles (both moved after fresh install, as system folders with spefcial tool - xsetup) E:\ for gamEs :)) So, after the install and few patches I've got NH in E:\Race\NH\ and Hasbro..\Nascar Heat\ in both D:\Program Files and C:\Program Files, both "unwanted" and without Data/Run folder. I did remove C:\Program Files\Hasbro and did install F2000 mod to default D:\Program Files\Hasbro... and set its shortcut to E:\race\NH\..exe (working folder aswell). Now it works :) |

Gary,
I get this message 'Nascar Heat not designed for Windows 2000' when I try to run the 50era mod or any mod. I'm running Windows XP. Whats up? I got the patch installed ok. My mistake might be in creating the shortcut. I don't know. Thanks. |

Just ignore this message. Heat runs well in XP. You may select 'Use Windows 2000 Compatibility Mode' in shortcut options if you don't want to see that message again. But don't select Win 98 compatibility mode because the game will crash.

Thanks, I'm all set now BUT a weird speed problem has happened. I'm able to do almost 260mph at the big ovals and even though I have the AI in the advanced (fastest) setting they can't compete. How do I adjust so we can race. Otherwise these mods are great? Thanks.

Hi JJ,
Heat uses something called a ghostlap for your mod specific AI. You can make your own AI to suit your driving speed and style for each mod. It is pretty easy to make your own ghostlaps for any mod but it does take a "special" way to drive when creating them. We have created a guide to "Creating Comepetitive AI" and it is posted here: Team Players Forum There are also some other threads that will help you with other things as well. I don't mean to take away from this forum, but since we are both at RSC and in the same section there is no need to repeat a lot of typing (which I am not great at),,, Hope this helps you out.
