SP2-SCGT sound fix

I have Windows XP Home edition with SP2. I have to run the game in Win 95 OR in Win 98/ME compatibility mode. The sound was garbled.
The mss32.dll file in the main Sports Car GT directory was product version 5.0a. I did a Google search and downloaded a bunch of mss32.dll files. Product version 5.0r worked, but was scratchy. Product version 6.0d works great and the sound is very good. Problem is solved for me. Hope it works for you.

Hi

I had the same problem with Windows 98. Now im using the dll from Rally Trophy and the sound proplem is away. One more possibilty is to change the sound accelation from maximum to minimum in the dxdiag.exe

Well as it turns out all I needed to do was to run my SCGT EXEs in "Windows 98" Compatibility mode. For me it ran with the original mss32.dll file. I did put the newer v6.0d file anyway. The XP SP2 also has a much better firewall and you have to add your EXEs to the exception list to race online. All my other (F1, F1C, NASCAR Heat, NASCAR 2003, etc.) run just fine without having to put them in Compatibility mode. I see no reason not to install DirectX 9.0c and the XP SP2 update. The SP2 update can successfully un-installed if you find something you can't live without won't run. For more information on SP2, go to
https://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx

So far my computer is running better and faster than it ever has.

logow00.bmp

I've never seen this until after installing SP2, and when using 95, 98, or any compatibility mode upon the .exe

"error locating anim map file D:\sportscargt\atln\maps\logow00.bmp"
That directory "atln" doesn't exist on my hd or on the SCGT CD.

I'm not the only one. Google will hit on logow00.bmp for SCGT also.

Anyone know how to fix it?

That "atln" is just a virtual path that SCGT uses while it runs. Any error message about lost BMPs can be fixed by putting a BMP with that name (in your case logow00.bmp) in your PATCH folder. Any BMP will do it, but the BMP you put might look odd if it was of a different thing (like if it was for a building and the BMP you put was for example a tire). Good luck

If any moderator is reading this,
I think this topic deserves a "sticky"

It solved my problem, and I am now able to run SCGT with SP2

I say this is a sticky thread for sure. Windows update has been working on SP2 for days now, and when it told me SP2 was ready to be installed. I came to this thread and grabbed the dll. SP2 went in smoothly and I just set all my exe's to run in compat mode and they all work fine, I did notice the rave party sounds in the game, so I put the dll in the game folder and, all is well. This thread saved me a big problem. I didn't even want to install SP2

Thank God for that! SCGT worked fine in compatability mode UNTIL I plugged in my Logitech Momo Racing Force wheel. Then CTD every time. I studied the Microsoft site and found nothing. Uninstalled SP2 and now it's fine again.

Did you try to change the res to 800 x 600 pixels. Did you had other USB devices plugged in ?. Had the same proplem with my Force Feedback wheel chancing the res to 800 x 600 and out pluging every USB device helped me.

I could run a couple of cars at 800x600. But not even one at 1024x768. I can run a full field with graphics maxed without SP2. And my wheel works!

If Microsoft or Logitech comes up with a solution, I'll reconsider SP2. If not, I can live without it better than I can live without SCGT and my good wheel.

SP2 and Sound Settings

Following the tips in this thread (e.g; running in Windows 98 compability mode) I was finally able to get SPGT to work under SP2 for graphics at 800x600 but not at 1024x768. Then, on a lark, I changed the sound setting from continuous to random. Now it runs just fine at 1024x768.

Oh my gosh!
Same here!
How the hell did you find it?
It works in 1024x768 only after setting CD play random.

Really weird

I own you a beer!

I had the same problem with 1024x768: as I said, for me the problem was gone after I have set the CD play (an Audio Setting) to random play instead of the default continous play.

I know it seems to make little sense, but it works.
