Never, ever, never buy your mother clothing for any holiday or event.
It works out just as badly or worse than trying to buy your wife or girlfriend clothes for whatever purpose or reason. Seriously, it'll only end up to be a much larger PITA than if you showed up a day late with a dead flower picked out of her garden. Flowers, cards, jewelery are all good solid safe bets either individually or in a group. Candy is iffy, especially if the word 'diet' has been uttered by her in the past 2-3 years. (I offer this with some authority as my mother is in her 70's now and I've had LOT'S of practice)

If you know your mother's taste in clothing well enough, why not.
Personally, I would never buy my mother a dress. I don't know, it's more a husband's thing to do. |
